A few Words about
BILLINGS & MATTHEWS
Billings and Matthews were documenting a series of experiments (typical of some 19th Century pseudo-science) which were aimed at showing that A) there is standard morphology to the skull of various native groups and B) that the cranial capacity of these people were less than their European masters. Ergo Europeans were supposed to be naturally superior to their little brown brothers (hmm!). Questionable science but quite arresting visually.
